Kuwait Eagles take Cup Final in the
12th Annual Phuket International Cricket Sixes 2015

Finals Day Wrap - Sunday 19th April 2015

The 12th Annual Phuket International Cricket Sixes 2015 Finals Day at the Republic Ground was very exciting in hot and humid conditions.

The day commenced with the semi-finals of the Plate, Bowl and Cup Divisions.

In the first semi-final of the Plate Bats 69 from India proved too strong for Sedgwick Cricket Club (SICCO’s), which featured three generations of the Austin family. In the other semi-final the Southern Stars from Australia ended what has been a brilliant campaign from the Sharifally Huzifers.

In the Bowl Division the CBBs won a close tussle with the Mungoorbada Bushrangers from the Northern Territory in Australia with the CBBs’ Jack Joy again retiring on the maximum score of 35. In the other semi-final the strong batting of Indian team Guahati Town proved too much for Baulkham Hill LOBATS.

The Cup first semi-final saw two famous clubs compete. The Narayanganj Club from Bangladesh beat Hong Kong Cricket Club to advance to the Cup Final. In the other semi-final the all-Kuwait affair between the Eagles and Hawks saw the Eagles win an entertaining match.

In the Shield Final Lamma Cricket Club of Hong Kong defeated an All-Star team in a close contest. It took a brilliant final over from Lamma’s Nilesh Jhaveri to win an exciting game.

The Plate Final was dominated by the Southern Stars who easily beat Bat 69. The Southern Stars’ Ron Elliot first retired with the bat and then bowled a very tight and effective over.

Jack Joy again retired with the bat to lead the CBBs to an imposing score of 98 to take out the Bowl for 2015 against Gauhati Town.

Then came the match everyone had been waiting for, the Cup Final between the Kuwait Eagles and Narayanganj from Bangladesh. Some attacking tactics paid off for the Eagles with Mahmoud Abdullah taking a fantastic catch behind to dismiss Joshi off Murad. Narayanganj never fully recovered even though Rubayet played a wonderful innings of 34 not out to take the score to a defendable 60.  This was enough to win him the Player-Of-Final Award. However, with Amir retiring on 33, the Eagles were able to pass the score easily to be crowned the Cup Champions for 2015.

Later that evening the Presentation Awards Dinner was held in the gardens of the lovely Kata Beach Resort where Amir Javed was presented with the Player of Tournament Award 2015.

The very important “Spirit of Cricket Award” was presented to the Munghoorbada Bushrangers from the Northern Territory, Australia as a Team Award for their wonderful goodwill and friendship during the Phuket International Cricket Sixes 2015.

Phuket International Cricket Sixes 2015 is presented by the Asian Cricket Sixes and sponsored by Kata Group Resorts Thailand.
